Release!
I started designing Monster Factory as a simple prototype with nothing more than boxes and a capsule with a collider and a small script to move the player and absorb objects. With the help of my artist and animator Ian I was able to populate the World and make it come alive. Coupled with the few mechanics and collectables I knew I had a game.
The bouncy happy feel was intended to give an upbeat vibe and infuse energy into the game scene. Bringing it alive with cars and rotating pickups/collectables. Usually in a game development cycle you design and then prototype, but in this instance the design and prototype happened all the way through production and into release. You have to know when to stop and eventually the game continued to morph out of control, so the decision was made to stop adding ideas and cut to releasing the current version.
It's a few hours of fun, a bit of a learning curve, and a ton of replay.
Another level or two may come in the future, with some new power ups and possibly AI. But the argument can be made for a Monster Factory 2.
Well see how this goes first.
